Champagne AR Lenoble releases Intense mag 15

After the successful release of the first wines of the “mag series”, with the mag 14 version, the house AR Lenoble announces the release of mag 15.

AR Lenoble Intense mag 15 is a blend of 45% pinot meunier from Damery in the Marne valley, 40% pinot noir from the village of Bisseuil (1er Cru) and 15% chardonnay from the village of Chouilly (Grand Cru). The percentage of reserve wines contained in this blend is 45%, an unprecedented percentage, many of which were aged in magnums under natural cork under a pressure of 1.5 bar between 2011 and 2015 before being blended with base wines from 2015 onwards to obtain the final blend. After a little over three years of maturing on lees, the wine has been disgorged and its dosage is 3g/l.

lenoble_inense_mag_152015 is remembered for its very hot summer which resulted in relatively high maturity for all three grape varieties. The year was also characterized by a lack of rainfall. The grapes were very concentrated with alcohol levels often between 10.5 and 11.3 degrees. Acidity levels have decreased, but thanks to high levels of malic acid, the pH has remained low, often around 3.05. To maintain this acidity, the company decided to block most of the malolactic fermentation in 2015.

When they took over the reins of their father in 1993, Anne and Antoine Malassagne decided to keep their reserve wines in 225-litre barrels according to the principle of perpetual reserve, a process that continues today, without however abandoning the investment in 5,000-litre barrels that are slower to age than in barrels.

In 2010, they decided to add an additional element to the perpetual reserve by keeping some of their reserve wines in magnums under natural cork.

In addition to AR Lenoble Intense mag 15, the champagne house AR Lenoble will also sell the following wines:

Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Chouilly mag 15
AR Lenoble Brut Nature Dosing Zero mag 14

In 2020, the year of the company’s centenary founded in 1920, AR Lenoble will market a Rosé Terroirs Chouilly-Bisseuil mag 14 for the very first time.
