Smith Haut Laffite buys an estate in the Napa Valley

Cathiard Estate Family - Vineyard

The Cathiard family, owner of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, will join the growing club of Bordeaux wine growers established in California with its purchase of an historic estate in the region.

Founded in 1885 by the Scottish brothers, James and William Rennie, and nestled in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains, this estate located in Rutherford has 25 hectares of vines surrounded by 100 hectares of forest.

The name of the domain is Flora Springs.

The brand will remain the property of the Komes and Garvey family, the former owners. The new name of the estate is not known at present, although Cathiard Estate Family seems to be a possibility.

Fabien Teitgen, the current winemaker at Château Smith Haut Lafitte, will be in charge of the wine, accompanied by Ben Morken in viticulture.

The transaction price was not revealed.
