Consumers leave behind oaky and toasty wines for fruity and fresh aromas. In all regions of France and worldwide. The winemakers have to adapt and the progress of viticulture, particularly through organic viticulture, allows the grapes to be picked earlier, perfectly ripe, without being over-ripe.
Since 1901, the Château Combel la Serre has been a family property located 17 km from Cahors on the Cournou plateaux, at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level. Directed by Jean-Pierre Ilbert and his son Julien, the vineyard today has 26 hectares of vines, mainly planted on clayey limestone soil. The vast majority of it is composed of Malbec, the emblematic grape variety of Cahors wines.
Ilbert family mixed agriculture for a long time and grapes brought to the cooperative cellar until 1998. It was on this date that Jean-Pierre decided to leave the cooperative and make his own wines. Five years later his son joined him on the estate.
In 2013, Julien and Jean-Pierre Ilbert decided to work with respect for the vines and to move to organic farming.
The wine is particularly fruity with luscious floral notes and some freshness inner mouth. Black fruits jump from the glass and freshness bring airiness and long finish. This wine is perfect for long aperitive or tapas for Spain’s lovers.

Black berries, some floral hints too. Fruity, fresh and vibrant. Round, perfectly ripe, the palate is bright and finished long. Not the most powerful and intellectual wine but an enjoying one for a lot of happiness. – 90/100
